Are you finding it difficult to sort out what is happening to you and how to move forward?

Are you uncertain how to heal from past experiences?

*Do you have a strong desire to “just get better” and get back to functioning?** ___

Dr. Polly Chawla

Choosing to embark on a therapeutic journey is no minor step. It demands a mix of emotions, time, and finance. More than anything, however, it requires courage. When someone musters the strength to seek help, it’s not merely for the sake of talking. They are looking for a professional who is fully invested in their wellbeing.

My commitment to my clients is to be genuine, to be present, and to actively listen. To understand and validate their complete journey. There is no greater honor for me than to accompany them through their struggles, changes, healing, and transformation. To be there and “hold” the space for their journey is the essence of my work.

Joanna is a Registered Psychologist and Certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapist who works primarily with adults. She has 15 years of clinical experience following her Master’s Degree in Psychology, obtained in Poland.

Although her work is informed by Sensoriomotor Therapy, Gottman Therapy and EMDR, she primarily achieves results with her clients using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and by teaching her clients how their thoughts influence their moods, behaviors, and perceptions.

She supports her clients in learning and practicing new strategies and techniques to deal with stress, in all its manifestations, and to regain control of their lives. She specializes in treating a wide range of issues including anxiety disorders, depression, stress, relationship issues, and trauma.

She also specializes in treating insomnia using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). Insomnia affects 15-33% of the population improves sleep in 70-80% of clients. CBT-I is now considered the first-line treatment for chronic insomnia due to its superior long-term efficacy, lack of side effects, and patient preference compared to sedative-hypnotics, which are associated with significant side effects and risks.

CBT-I is more effective than sleeping pills and reduces or eliminates their use by the vast majority of clients and is more effective at reducing depression than antidepressant medication alone in depressed patients with insomnia. It also improves other co-morbidities, including pain and fibromyalgia, substance abuse, PTSD, and menopausal hot flashes.

Cindy is a Registered Psychologist and works with adults for individual therapy. Cindy works from a person-centered, compassionate approach, primarily using EMDR therapy, EMDR-derived Flash Technique, and Cognitive Behavioural therapy, with some Solution-Focused, as needed. Cindy strives to create a caring, safe, collaborative, and non-judgemental environment for clients to explore growth and change. She believes clients have strength, resiliency, and resources to work through life’s challenges, as well as the ability to learn new perspectives, skills, and resources when necessary. Cindy helps guide clients to enhance personal growth, healthy habits, and meet identified goals.

From small to big life experiences, some of these can leave a lasting trauma impact that shape our emotional, physical, and behavioural responses in ways that interfere with living life optimally. This can look like anxiety and/or panic, depression, feeling overwhelmed, difficulties with sleep and concentration, having a hard time with boundaries, experiencing anger, and more. Trauma, whether big or small, can come from many different life experiences, such as motor vehicle accidents, loss (in many forms), sexual/physical/emotional abuse, difficult childhoods, bullying, challenging relationships, and more. Symptoms from these lasting experiences can be overwhelming and confusing. Cindy can help you navigate through this and move towards a deeper and more meaningful path of healing, and to more current and optimal ways of living your life. Training and Qualifications Cindy has a Master Degree in Counselling Psychology and with over ten years of training, experience, and volunteering, has extensive knowledge dealing with issues of trauma, anxiety, panic, depression, phobias, stress management, suicide, grief, boundaries, assertiveness, and self esteem. Cindy constantly attends workshops and training seminars to expand her knowledge and experience to give clients specialized, therapeutic treatment based on research-informed practice. Cindy is a member of the following associations: • College of Alberta Psychologists • Canadian Psychological Association
